Dr. Nimer is currently vice chairman for Faculty Development within the Department of Medicine at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), a member of the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research and professor of medicine and pharmacology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York. After receiving a medical degree from the Pritzker School of Medicine of the University of Chicago, Dr. Nimer completed his training in internal medicine and hematology-oncology at the University of California at Los Angeles Center for the Health Sciences. He was a member of the faculty at UCLA before moving to MSKCC in 1993 to assume the position of Hematology Service Chief. Dr. Nimer’s research is currently focused on defining the molecular mechanisms that control the growth of normal and malignant hematopoietic stem cells and on using investigational agents and stem cell transplantation to cure patients with leukemia, lymphoma and myelodysplastic syndromes. He has received numerous awards and holds the Alfred P. Sloan Chair.
